What do you want your doctors to know about you?
What is Palliative Care?

Palliative Care is specialized medical care for people with serious or chronic conditions. The Palliative Care team is a patient-centered team who focuses on providing relief of pain, suffering and stress associated with advanced or chronic illnesses.

Who is Palliative Care for?
Palliative Care is for you if you are suffering from a serious illness, which may include, but is not limited to:

  • Cancer
  • Advanced Respiratory Disease
  • ALS
  • Liver failure
  • Dementia
  • Advanced Kidney Disease
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Heart Disease/Failure
Palliative Care is appropriate at any age and at any stage of a serious illness. It can be provided along with curative treatments for serious illnesses.
What does Palliative Care provide?
  • Assistance with making medical decisions regarding health care and options for treatment
  • Expert management of physical symptoms: pain, nausea, shortness of breath
  • Close communication with patients and their primary care providers
  • Emotional support for patients and their family members
  • A team of professionals to include a physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, nurse, and chaplain.
Palliative services are available to all inpatients at CalvertHealth. If you or your loved one feel you could benefit from this service, please notify your nurse and a consult will be placed to the Palliative Care Team.

Most insurance plans cover all or part of the services included in Palliative Care. If you have any concerns regarding the cost of these services, a social worker from the team can assist you.
